Summer learning: GRCC offers Advanced Manufacturing Camp

Grant Regional Career Center has a new opportunity for area students this summer: an Advanced Manufacturing Camp in partnership with Wiley Metal.

Students ages 12 to 16 from around the region are invited to participate in this special opportunity.

This free camp will offer students the chance to explore modern manufacturing in a real-world setting, with hands-on learning in a safe environment.

Using CAD software, students will actually create a product that they can take with them! They will tour a real manufacturing facility, learn about entrepreneurship, meet industry experts, and even operate machinery (under close supervision).

The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 1-5 at Grant Regional Career Center, on the campus of Marion High School, 750 W. 26th St., Marion. (Students will be transported to Wiley Metal for some portions of the camp.) Free lunch will be provided to students.

GRCC's youth programming aims to boost interest in the trades in general and advanced manufacturing specifically. By learning about these career opportunities early, students can be prepared to take full advantage of the career prep opportunities available to them through GRCC to when they are upperclassmen in high school.

The summer advanced manufacturing camp is a partnership with SparkForce through the FMA Foundation. This summer opportunity is made possible in part due to community support of GRCC's advanced manufacturing program, with grants from the Don Wood Foundation and the Huhtamaki Foundation. It is also supported by the PMMI Education and Training Foundation.
