The Grant Regional Career Center proudly announces two transformative partnerships that will enhance its dual credit criminal justice career training program and provide students with unique opportunities for professional growth and hands-on experience.
GRCC has joined forces with the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) to offer the Jail Officer Course and Certification. This collaboration means that students who complete this program at GRCC will be eligible to enter the corrections workforce once they turn 18 years of age. The Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board recently approved this program, a milestone for both institutions.
In addition, GRCC has established a collaborative partnership with the Grant County Sheriff’s Department. Students in GRCC’s criminal justice program will now have the unique opportunity to intern with CGSD, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in a real-world law enforcement setting.
These partnerships aim to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional application, equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to thrive in the criminal justice field. They also underscore GRCC’s commitment to providing students with practical insights and skills that go beyond the classroom, GRCC Director Nathan McNeely said.
“We’re committed to giving students real-world skills and experiences that translate into successful careers,” McNeely said. “These expanded partnerships provide an exceptional opportunity for students to become well-rounded professionals ready to serve their community.”
Dr. Travis Hueston, GRCC criminal justice instructor, also expressed enthusiasm about these partnerships
“These collaborations with the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and the Grant County Sheriff’s Department represent a significant step forward in our commitment to offering students not just education but also real-world, practical experience,” he said. “We are confident that these opportunities will empower our students to excel in their future careers in criminal justice.”
